One of the most prevelant problems coming up on our customer's workstations is Houston Spyware and Houston Adware. We specialize in Houston Spyware Removal and Houston Adware Removal. The object of this page is to disqualify you from our spyware / adware removal service if you are of a mind to do it yourself, and since the programs recommended here are free - it will only cost you your time. If you take the time to read this page and follow these directions you can get the spyware off your workstation and continue a spyware / adware free happy life. If you are the do it yourselfer - here is what you need to do it.

The first thing is to go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - and remove any applications or toolbars that should not be there. Many Adware programs provide a way to remove themselves but just do not advertise it. Sometimes automatic removal will not work.

You should download 4 programs and run them in this order (they are all free).

Download Adaware. - Install the program. Get the online updates via the program's update feature. Run the program.

Download Spybot Search and Destroy. Install the program. Get the online updates via the program's update feature. Run the program.

At this point many people will find that there problem is fixed. The Adware / Spyware is gone. These 2 programs ran in conjunction with one another do a good job eliminating the majority of spyware / adware. There are very many Spyware / Adware removal programs out there but these 2 are the ones we recommend. Why? 2 Reasons. #1 - they are both free. #2 - if they find something they fix it without trying to get you to buy a full version.

If you are still having problems at this point it is time to get CWShredder. This program focuses on a few of the nastier Spyware / Adware programs out there. It is also a free program.

CWShredder - This program kills some of the nastier search engine hijackers. It automatically removes their payloads - but not in all cases.

If you are still infected at this point it is time to go the Hijack This route and start trying to identify what the heck is going on. This can be a very time consuming process. It is also is the time to consider whether or not you really want to do this. If you have got this far and you are still having problems you now in the more difficult area of removal. Proceed at your own risk.

Hijack This - Only for helping you identify spyware / adware - it does not actually remove anything. Searches the registry and displays suspicious registry keys - these are not standard registry keys - this is where spyware will load the payload that causes the automatic rejeneration of their mischiev.

Use Hijack This in conjunction with Google Search. Search Google on the suspicious program names that come up in Hijack This. Often you will find links on how to remove these programs. Please note that many of these pages that detail advanced fixes and removal instructions are going to involve you editing your windows registry. Please understand that small registry changes can cause major problems with your Windows installation. Now would be a good time to evaluate whether or not you want to proceed doing this yourself.
